Presented by behindthechair.com, this year’s contest received 311,000 entries from 80 countries in 35 categories. Winners will be announced on August 25 in Washington, D.C. at the industry’s most prestigious hair show, featuring 158 artists and more than 20 classes over 4 days—THE BTC SHOW, August 24-27.
Behindthechair.com Founder & CEO Mary Rector-Gable created #ONESHOT in 2015 to tap into the power of social media in the hair industry and break down barriers to entry that existed in traditional hair awards competitions. “BTC recognized early on that Instagram would be crucial to hairdressers” success, as it brought an unprecedented opportunity to share great work and develop relationships with fellow hairdressers and clients globally,” Rector-Gable said. “We’ve always felt hair awards should have the same type of transparency where everyone is able to see each other’s work, and with #ONESHOT, there is no cost to enter. We wanted to offer a space where hairdressers could be recognized and celebrated for real hair behind the chair AND for beautiful studio work.”
For this groundbreaking hair competition, behindthechair.com used Instagram as their vehicle of submission. Hairdressers uploaded their chosen photos to Instagram and hashtagged their desired categories. In its first year, #ONESHOT received 47,000 entries. Now in its fifth year, more than 311,000 entries were tagged as part of the #ONESHOT competition, representing hairdressers from over 80 countries.
